ALL about closures

Not everyone is familiar with closures or has even heard of them If you are confused choosing a silk base or lace closure, even just invest in a closure… keep reading! I will answer your question you .
What is a closure?
A closure is a section of hair (about 3-5 inches wide) ventilated in either lace,  or a silk base made to imitate the scalp and give full protection to your hair! Nylon closures are apparently a thing now too! They can be sewn, taped, or glued down. If your hair is broken off, natural, colored, etc. a closure is the best option for you to maintain the health of your hair while you wear weaves. They are priced the same as a single bundle of hair! ($60-$120) No more worrying about blending, frizzing, coloring, heat damage, or tracks showing!
Free Part:
Closure has the ability to have a part anywhere.
Pre-Parted (Middle, Side, Three-Part):
If the closure is full lace, the part can still be placed where you like using a little water and re-parting with a comb. These just provide a pre-plucked, pre-made part to make installing a little bit easier.
Non-full lace (Beauty Supply Store):
There are many “lace” closures in stores that are not fully lace. By this, I mean they have a definite part that cannot be changed because there are either tracks or too much material surrounding the part. STAY AWAY FROM THESE! They usually range from ($20-$50).
Lace closures:
Lace closures have visible knots and a stretchier base. It is significantly thinner than silk which gives it the ability to lay flatter, thus last longer. The swiss lace option is a more natural looking lace. It is slightly darker and slightly thicker than regular lace. It is usually more costly than regular lace. This is the more popular choice most likely because of the price difference.
Pros:
Cheaper (about $30 cheaper than silk), easier to install, lasts longer, doesn’t shed as much as silk based, less visible “line of demarcation” (where the closure starts), goes well with any color scalp
Cons:
Knots have to be bleached or covered with makeup to imitate scalp.
Silk Closures:
These have a much thicker base, which looks much more like the scalp than lace.  Comes in the same sizes as lace closures. The material is usually a light color which can be harder to
blend with those with darker skin .
Pros:
More natural appearance, undetectable if installed properly
Cons:
Requires good technique to lay properly, much more expensive, I have known them to shed/bald faster than lace, must be dipped in RIT dye or tea bags to darken the material if you are not of a lighter skin tone, line of demarcation is much more visible over time, doesn’t lay as flat as long as lace, tends to look “wiggy”
So which one is better?
When buying a silk closure you must be careful, most silk base closure installs send up looking something like this:
This happens when they are not properly installed at the front so the line of demarcation is not hidden and hair must be used to cover it. OR the stylist just didn’t pluck the part. So be careful to who you go to when getting a closure install! And I will update to write how to install a closure.
